About Kentucky Bluegrass Wirehair

What Guides Our Program

  • Who We Are & What We’re Building
Kentucky Bluegrass Wirehair Dachshunds is a small breeding program focused on building something truly our own — a program with a clear direction, carefully selected foundation dogs, and lines we can continue developing for generations.
  • How We Breed
We breed with both the AKC and FCI written standards in mind, placing emphasis on structure, movement, coat, temperament, pedigree, and overall breed type. We do not chase fads, novelty, or whatever happens to be popular at the moment. Color is considered only after the qualities that matter most. While we specialize primarily in wildboar and dapple, those colors come after correctness, soundness, health, and long-term value to the program.
  • Pedigree & Health
Pedigree plays a major role in every breeding decision we make. We intentionally bring in domestic and international lines that we believe offer qualities worth preserving and building upon. We also pay particular attention to Lafora status, cardiac evaluation, patellas, longevity, temperament, and consistency throughout the pedigree.
  • Built for the Long Term
Our dogs have access to high-quality veterinary care through both a reproductive specialist and an established general veterinary practice. We are investing in dogs, pedigrees, veterinary care, and relationships  we intend to build upon for years to come. Our goal is continuity, depth, consistency, and a recognizable program identity — built one generation at a time.

Meet the Breeder

Once I met a Wirehair, there was no going back.

I’ve always had and loved Dachshunds, but everything changed when I met my first Wirehaired Dachshund. I bought one almost immediately and knew pretty quickly there was no going back.

What started as a lifelong love of Dachshunds grew into a much deeper appreciation for the Wirehair — their personality, expression, versatility, and unmistakable breed character. From there, my interest expanded into pedigrees, genetics, conformation, imported bloodlines, and understanding how thoughtful breeding decisions shape future generations.

I’m hands-on with every part of Kentucky Bluegrass Wirehair Dachshunds, from researching pedigrees and planning pairings to raising puppies, showing dogs, coordinating veterinary care, and staying connected with the families who bring our puppies home.

The goal has never been simply to produce puppies. I want to build a program with its own identity, depth, and direction — one that reflects the qualities that made me fall in love with the Wirehaired Dachshund in the first place.

Current Program Policy

At this time, we are not placing puppies with Full AKC registration and are not offering public stud service. This allows us to remain selective about how our developing lines are used while we continue building the long-term foundation of our program.
